entrance of the schoolThe Yoga School was established in 1991 in a small strip mall near Claiborne Hill in Covington, Louisiana and successfully became the first yoga studio in the area. At that time the focus of the teaching was in the Iyengar tradition with several senior teachers from abroad and the U.S. coming and providing much needed support and encouragement. The school continued to grow and moved into downtown Covington, just off Lee Lane on Walker Alley, a converted quaint wooden cottage with the space to develop an enchanting flower and herb garden, inviting to all passing by. The Yoga School continued to grow moving into its present location on the hospital corridor three years after it was founded.

The intention has always been to offer to the local community the opportunity to experience the benefits that the practice of yoga offers. In addition to the strength and flexibility gained from the practice of the postures, and the stress reducing breathing techniques, it also provides a time for reflection and self inquiry. Fostering a safe environment where a student feels valued, respected and free from verbal, emotional, physical and sexual coercion or abuse; a place for the personal exploration of body, emotions and mind - a place designed to systematically evolve one's consciousness.
